Week ending Oct. 11, 1997 A.D.-
Dear Diary,
Norse-Mel and the Party Hats went back up Midwest climes because the runes told us it was necessary."Go", said the runes. Yea, we could not be rude to the runes, and besides, we wanted a peek at Fall fashions since the tank-topped South makes "extended summer" a reality.
So up to Ft Wayne, 7 long hours in our worthy mother ship, and we land at Columbia Street West. "Land Ho", barked Lucky at the prow.
We docked there and found yon civilization to be exactly as we had left it, greetings coming from noble sound men, waitresses, and bartenders, all the hearty souls, they. Bud mead flowed and we all made merry at yon place with a hithering of students and locals. Aye, but it was good to be back there, The gatherers there comprised the largest gathering there yet- surely they were under the influence of Thor and other gods, as we they drank from horn (or is it the horny drank?). Lots of hearkening was reciprocally reciprocated, and Crow danced a jig.
At night's end, we left Ft Wayne under cover of darkest night, fat and happy.
Oy, and on to Knoxville.
.................................The brothers of Pi Kappa Phi extended to us an invitation, which we accepted devotedly. When we arrived, there was an extension of hands all around as waited for our PA to show up. Tick, tick, tock, no, no news. Huh? Were they coming? Surely they must- we made a BINDING CONTRACT with them. A handshake had been made over the phone. Then 10 o'clock arrived. Then 10:30.
Uh-oh.
Not a peep from the sound company. Despair was rearing its ugly head. The social asked me if we could get another company in to do the show. I told him that in a college town after a football weekend we had about as much hope as one of Saddam's tanks. I left to go to the Strip and walked up to Flamingo's to make one last call to check my messages.
Then I see a familiar truck. Then I see a familiar face- Cam Flener of the Velcro Pygmies! Miracle of miracles, they were there at the club with a truck full of PA gear ready to roll. Cam, Blake, and noble Andy, all pitched in and SAVED OUR ASS. Thor again must have been watching. Andy hopped in the truck, we made like madmen to set up, and played the show. Unbelievable- 1 in a million chance we could have pulled it off.
Party Hats off to the brothers, who did not bitch a bit at the delay (we started at 12:45). Instead, they were a rockin, appreciative bunch. Brad Millsaps you are a dude!
Whataweekend.
Now Athens and a full weekend at 5 Points.
Plant ya now, dig ya later.
