Week ending May 3, 1997 A.D.-
Main Street, Georgia Theater, Supper Club
Dear Diary,
Shut up, I'm thinking...
about last weekend. Our RV, Mom, traveled to 2 states- Gawga and Alabama. Our maternal land ship ferried us most excellently from port to port to two of our favorite places to play, the Georgia Theater and the War Eagle Supper Club.
But not before we went Thursday to one of our old nearby haunts, Main Street in fair Murfreesboro. MS is now under new, modern (and all the other words in the Boy Scout Credo) ownership- and the facility, always potentially one of the best in the South, is coming to fruition. We had a vera guda tima wid all de Greek, GDI's and locals there and are really looking 4ward to playing there sune. Az eye larn 2 speyul.
On par with the truly fabo 5 Points in Birmingham in all ways except size, the Georgia Theater is a great facility in one of our favorite towns, Athens. (We buy almost all our stage gear at the coolest store in the world there, The Junkman's Daughter's Brother). Despite the huge draw of the Midtown Music Fest going on in Atlanta, we had a very nice crowd. The light guy, Phillip, showed us a video of him blowing a kickass flame out of his mouth. The lasers, live video of the band on a huge screen while we played, and the most nuts crowd we have ever had made it our favorite show there ever. The Theta Chi's gave me a super tee shirt in appreciation for the show we had last week. Thank youuuuu, guys!
But EVERYBODY there was great. I mean it, dammit.
We have been playing the Theater for about 3 years. The Supper Club, however, we have been playing since we were all wee lads. Our friend John Brandt is one of the coolest club owners in the South, and while the club doesn't have all the wild lighting the Theater has, it makes up for it with its incredible vibe. It is damn near impossible for us not to play our hearts out for the People of the Plains. Along with Mr. Enthusiasm, Charles Bryan, I know many of the people there by name. When the 5 weary men who are us, the men of the manly troupe, crawled into Mom at 4:00 AM and buried our noggins into the feathers, it was time to chalk up yet another great time- all due to Auburn and the club.
See you back there this summer, but not before we go to BETA and ATO on the campus!
Later.
See you next week, DD.
